Project Details

Project Details.

My project was a success. I was able to teach second graders fun things about math, science, logic, and I was even able to read them a story about Clementine.

I wanted to do this project because I wanted to teach young minds about what I love. So I knew what I wanted to do. After that I needed to make arrangements  to teach lessons in a classroom. Mrs. Nickerson was more than willing to help me make my EDGE project a success. I was lucky to be able to teach in her class. Once I knew when and where I was teaching, I was able to focus on what I wanted to teach the students. After some preparation I had lessons that I wanted to teach. I learned that your lessons cannot be set in stone. I had to adapt to different situations to help the students learn in a better way.

First, I was able to shadow Mrs. Nickerson. This helped me see how she taught and gave me a new perspective on teaching, it also helped me learn the students' names. One thing that helped me learn the students the best was one on one time. I was able to go over a math quiz with each individual student.

Now that I knew everyone's names it gave me more confidence to teach them.  So, I taught them what I love. I think that I made a good impression on the STEM subjects. Maybe one day they will be able to teach others what they love and that would be great.
